Song Information:

Zimmers Hole originally was a side project for Strapping Young Lad
members Jed Simon and Byron Stroud and also featured Steve Wheeler on
drums and Chris “the Heathen” Valagao on vocals. In the past the band
focused on creating a blend of heavy music that combined the heavier
elements of Strapping Young Lad with bits of riffs of other bands’
songs as a tribute to bands they enjoy all while throwing in their own
brand of humor.

Now with the demise of Strapping Young Lad the band has become less
of a side project and more of a band of its own. Also new to the ranks
is legendary drummer Gene Hoglan replacing Wheeler behind the kit.

Right off the bat fans of Strapping Young Lad should know that
they’d be a fan of the music as 3/4 of the musical output is featured
in this band. Perhaps the most underrated part of the band though is
the vocal delivery of “The Heathen.” His range fits the band perfectly
and goes from an old school power metal screamer right to a more death
metal growl.

Of course the humor isn’t gone completely it just has been slightly
toned down, but a look at the album’s title and the lyrics to Anonymous
Esophagus should let you know that the band still isn’t taking
themselves too seriously.

Another pleasant surprise to the disc comes in the form of a guest
appearance from fictitious Dethklok singer Nathan Explosion returning
the favor since Gene Hoglan drummed on the Dethklok album.

Zimmers Hole have managed to create an album that perfectly blends
their humor with their musical chops that should satisfy fans clamoring
for more music from SYL while at the same time providing an album that
is more than capable of standing on its own legs.
