Darkness can be a frightening place, it can be a place of peace, a state of mind, or a place for hiding from things. I write music that always seems to point to darkness in one way or another. I have always preffered a dimly lit room to a room full of sunshine or bright lights.
I have written and recorded music since the age of 14. I started recording using an archaic multi track console (of sorts) that I built myself, consisting of a small radio shack DJ mixer, a small boombox and a stereo cassette recorder. I would record one (track) on one cassette, then play it through the boom box, while performing another track over the boombox playback, at the same time recording to the stereo recorder. By the time I had finished with a song, needless to say there was a lot of background white noise and the recordings sounded about as good as my recording set-up. But what I learned in those early days taught me to be more creative in some ways, and taught me how to form something out of sounds.
I now work with much better equipment and a lot more tools at my disposal, but I try to keep my methods of composition and creativity that I used in the old days. Its sometimes harder to create when you have much more at your disposal, it makes the shortcut trap easier to fall into, which can sometimes make music sound too polished and clean, leaving it with no soul or personality.
I have had several of my songs used on Cable Network television to include shows such as the History Channel's Beyond the Da Vinci code, MTV's Scarred ect ect..
